Remarcable joins SMACNA

We've joined the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors' National Association

Key Takeaways

  • Remarcable is now a SMACNA Associate Member, bringing connected purchasing, inventory, tools, and prefab management to sheet metal and HVAC contractors.
  • Sheet metal worker employment is projected to grow just 2% through 2034, with most of the roughly 10,600 annual openings coming from retirements and turnover rather than new demand, meaning the workforce SMACNA members already have is the workforce they need to keep.
  • The membership extends Remarcable's ongoing commitment to the specialty trades, alongside our work with NECA, ELECTRI International, and MCAA.

Remarcable is now an Associate Member of the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors' National Association (SMACNA), the trade association representing more than 3,500 signatory contracting firms across 97 chapters in the United States, Canada, Australia, and Brazil.

We're proud to join SMACNA and stand alongside the sheet metal and HVAC contractors who keep buildings running, literally, in the walls and above the ceilings, where the work is easy to overlook until something breaks.

Why sheet metal and HVAC contractors need a better system

Sheet metal and HVAC work is detail-heavy in a way that a lot of other trades aren't. A single mechanical room can carry hundreds of duct fittings, dampers, coils, and hangers, each one tied to a submittal, a spec section, and a delivery date that has to line up with a crew standing by to install it. A missed order, a mismatched fitting, or a stalled prefab assembly doesn't just cost time, it costs margin on a job that was already tight.

The labor side of the business isn't making that any easier. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects sheet metal worker employment will grow just 2% through 2034, slower than the 3% average across all occupations, with most of the roughly 10,600 openings projected each year coming from workers retiring or leaving the trade rather than from new demand. HVAC mechanics and installers are growing faster, at 8%, with about 40,100 openings a year.

Across construction broadly, 92% of firms report difficulty filling craft positions, according to the 2025 AGC of America and NCCER workforce survey. The median construction worker is 42 years old, and 22% of the workforce is now 55 or older. Regardless of how you cut the data, the people who know how a job actually runs are getting harder to replace which means that labor productivity and efficiency are of the utmost importance, time is money.

That makes the operational side of the business, purchasing, inventory, tools, prefab, and delivery, the place where SMACNA contractors have the most room for improvement, because it's the part that doesn't depend on hiring. Most contractors are still running it through phone calls, email threads, and spreadsheets that live in one person's head. If Remarcable can help them be operationally efficient, it can increase their throughput and productivity.

What Remarcable brings to SMACNA members

Remarcable connects the parts of the job that usually sit in silos, purchasing, inventory, tools, prefab assemblies, and delivery management, and brings them together in one place. It can help reduce labor waste (the time spent going back and forth to confirm activities), thereby increasing efficiency and productivity.

With Remarcable, purchasing teams can order material with live distributor pricing and availability, instead of working the phone to find out what's actually in stock. Field teams can see warehouse stock before submitting a purchase request, and a visual catalog of more than 600,000 items, with photos and slang mapping, means orders come in right the first time, cutting down the back-and-forth on submittal review. Accounts payable teams save time too: every order runs through a 4-way match (PO, sales order, proof of receipt, invoice), which goes a step beyond the industry-standard three-way match, so pricing and quantity discrepancies get caught before they're paid rather than after close-out.

Prefab is where a lot of this gets compounded. Sheet metal shops run assemblies that have to arrive complete and on schedule, and material bought against an assembly behaves differently from material bought against an install date, which is the pattern behind how Interstates standardized prefab management.

For distributor partners, Remarcable Supplier Integrations route contractor quote requests directly into the supplier's ERP system, ready to review and act on, with all communication tied to the order inside Remarcable instead of scattered across calls and email.

Underneath all of it, Remarcable Intelligence handles the repetitive checking: invoice matching that flags a price discrepancy before payment, smart scan for turning documents into records, and AI quote and invoice processing, each with a human review step.

As part of this membership, we're planning to host training sessions with SMACNA on better material management, practical sessions members can put to work on their own jobs.

What the SMACNA partnership means for members

Joining SMACNA means being useful inside a community that has spent decades building the standards, training, and advocacy that keep the sheet metal and HVAC trade strong, not just selling into it. We're looking forward to being in the room at chapter events, hearing directly what's slowing members down in the field and the back office, and building toward that instead of guessing at it.

We're a supplier-neutral platform, not a distributor and not trying to become one. We have built Remarcable alongside contractors, and the $900M in gross material purchases that move through it every month, across more than 150 integrated national suppliers and 35+ ERP and accounting systems, all point back to one idea: connect what a contractor already has and does, rather than asking them to rip and replace it.

This builds on Remarcable's broader commitment to the specialty trades, including our involvement with NECA, ELECTRI International, and MCAA, and our ongoing support for chapter events and sponsorships across the industry. We joined MCAA earlier this year for the same reason, and that story is in Remarcable joins MCAA. The platform itself became built for mechanical and plumbing contractors this year, which is what makes the SMACNA membership a fit rather than a stretch.

For SMACNA members sizing us up, we'd rather earn a conversation than a pitch. Tell us where your team is losing time or margin, and we'll show you plainly whether we can help.
