In honor of WIC Week, join us as we sit down with some of the most Remarcable women in construction

This week as we celebrate women in construction, I was asked to profile a number of women. They are customers, suppliers, manufacturers, distributors, and colleagues. I asked each of them the same series of questions. Each has #herstory about how they came to construction that is unique. Some grew up in the industry with parents and siblings in the industry, others happened to accidentally trip their way in. As is, in life, each story is different but what struck me most was the commonalities.
What you will find across all of their stories are consistent themes: incredible culture, teamwork, commitment to excellence, mentorship, growth, leadership, camaraderie, rewarding work, and a real love for this industry. As I was reading and writing, I reflected on those commonalities and why they are so persistent in the industry.
The answer is clear, construction has always been and always will be about teamwork. No one person can build alone. It takes an owner, designer, general contractor, project manager, and everyone of the skilled tradespeople from electrical and mechanical to plumbing, HVAC, carpenters, machinists, and the list goes on to build a home, hospital, school and all of the infrastructure that society needs. I think it is the glue that binds us–that sense of community. It is ingrained in the way we work and operate. Because of that, it changes the way the industry operates–from a single contributor to large corporations and associations, everyone is reliant on one another and we know it. That kind of culture permeates across the industry and is bigger than any one person and so it leads to a humbling of sorts, a cooperation that is part of the DNA. It makes me proud to say that I have spent my career in this industry–a place where we join together to literally build community. Where leadership and mentorship matter.
This series highlights women who are forging ahead and making space for more women to build rewarding careers in construction. If we intend to level up and build stronger, we need you.
I hope you enjoy meeting this amazing group of women, I know I did.
Throughout my career, I have focused on supporting operations-centric businesses, including oil and gas, school bus transportation, and supply chain management. In 2016, the opportunity to support MYR Group, a large-scale electrical construction services company, was a natural progression—an organization deeply rooted in operational excellence and field execution. While the construction industry brings its own unique complexities and regulatory nuances, my core mandate has remained consistent: align technology and leadership to enable business growth, strengthen operational performance, and invest in the development of people. Across every industry I have served, the mission has been clear—deliver the right solutions at the right time to empower frontline teams, support scalable growth, and build resilient organizations prepared for long-term success.
Over the past decade, the most meaningful accomplishment of my leadership has been empowering the MYR IT team to support the company’s growth from $1 billion to $3.6 billion. By investing in our people, fostering accountability, and building a culture rooted in trust and execution, we consistently deliver complex projects, support stakeholders across the enterprise, and seamlessly integrate acquisitions. Our success is not defined solely by technology outcomes, but by the strength and professionalism of the team behind them. I am most proud that we have developed talent, strengthened culture, and helped make MYR Group a place where people can thrive and grow.
The most rewarding thing about working in the construction industry is the tangible impact. Construction is not theoretical, it is visible, lasting, and essential. The work directly shapes communities, strengthens infrastructure, and supports economic growth. There is deep satisfaction in knowing that the teams I support enable projects that power cities, connect regions, and serve critical public needs. I am happy to be part of the MYR team.
In the future, in addition to continuing to support MYR Group, I would like to expand my horizons and serve on a Board of Directors or Strategic Advisory Role focused on Cyber Security in an Operations Centric Company.
I highly recommend MYR Group as one of the best places for a meaningful career. For women considering joining the industry, construction is one of the most demanding, high-accountability industries in the world. It rewards competence, resilience, and results. If you are in this field—or considering it—know this: you belong here because of capability, not accommodation. Sometimes you may be the only woman in the room, on the jobsite, or at the table. Throughout my career in technology, I have often been the only woman in the room. Do not let that isolate you. Let it sharpen you. Master your craft—whether operations, safety, engineering, finance, or IT. Competence is your strongest leverage. When you consistently deliver, credibility follows. Be bold, don’t be shy. And when you advance, pull others forward. Culture shifts when women in leadership normalize excellence, directness, and collaboration without apology. When you speak, speak firmly, do not apologize.
Construction builds infrastructure. You are building something equally important—visibility, opportunity, and precedent for the next generation of women leaders.
